January 2019

Wishing everyone a happy 2019 from all at Warminster and District Angling club. To get us off to a good start to 2019 we are pleased to announce that the club has successfully secured the lease of 3 miles of the Bristol Avon between Avoncliffe and Limpley Stoke. This iconic stretch of the river is known for its specimen fish from double figure Barbel to double figure pike. This is a great acquisition for the club and gives members direct access to some of the best river fishing in the area

The club is very pleased to announce that the first recorded Barbel from our Stretch of the Frome was caught last week, estimated at 3-4lb. Well done to Keith Candow for his capture and for sending us the pictures. For those who don’t know our stretch of the Frome was stocked with 2k Barbel fingerling 4-5 years ago and they have waited until now to make an appearance. Let’s hope it’s the first of many more and with the recent habitat improvements to the river we could have a very nice Barbel fishery in the making.

August 2018

After a very successful AGM in May the Committee has been busy acting on all the discussions and ideas that were raised during the meeting. We have continued with the ongoing improvements to all of our fisheries through work parties and certain individual's dedication. Those of you who fish at Crockerton will have noticed the new platform that has appeared and hopefully you have been taking advantage of it. More platforms are planned for Crockerton and also at Witham Friary, with several easy access platforms being installed there allowing our less abled members the chance to fish the lake more safely. There is also plans to install toilets, an improved car park and access. This is all part of the larger plans to get Witham back to it's former glory. Bristol Avon Rivers Trust (BART) have now completed a project on our stretch of the river Frome and the committee are very happy with the outcome. It is hoped that the habitat improvements will improve juvenile recruitment, fish refuge and as a result better fishing for members. Again this is the start of a larger plan to improve the river over the coming years and hopefully to start running river matches again. Fishing has been tough this summer with the heatwave that hit the UK however with things starting to cool down there has never been a better time to get out there and catch a few fish. Looking towards the Autumn and winter there is plenty opportunity for members to get involved in work parties and to share your ideas for our fisheries, please get in touch via the email address or on Facebook and we will be more than happy to welcome your input.

On a final note it was with great sadness that we had to announce the passing Of Stanley Curtis in June, as one of the founding members he has seen the club through thick and thin. He was such a passionate fisherman and as a founding member cared so deeply for the success of his club. His legacy will live on through our new teaching kids to fish program and The Stan Curtis Trophy which will be a river based match (more info to follow).

  • January 2018

Firstly we would like to wish all our members a Happy New year. Now the bad bits, over the Christmas period our lock up was broken into and our ride on mower was stolen, the police have been informed and are investigating the incident.

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the resignation of our Vice President Archie Moore. Archie has been with the club for over 50 years but has sadly had to resign on health grounds. Archie has reigned but will still continue to support the club in its future.

Crockerton will be closed on Wednesday 21st of February 2018 as the British Army have chosen our club waters to hold their match day. We would like to wish everyone taking part good luck and tight lines.

  • New stock has arrived

The good news as promised, after much hard work and investigation by the committee, advice from Peter Rolfe (book crock of gold, and phone calls) and the dealing with David Rance and his team from Sport and Leisure Fisheries Ltd,who i can't recommend highly enough. The bottom lake at Witham has been stocked with 2300+ fish, a mixture of Tench and crucians. While we have been invoiced for 2 to 7 inch crucian and 4 to 10 inch Tench some of the tench are closer to 14 to 16 inch fish. These are all quality farmed fish which have never seen a hook or net before and i would ask that for the time being we don't use keepnets at Witham. Thanks for your support

  • Work parties

Throughout the year maintenance needs to be carried out on all our club waters to keep them fishable. We normally carry out this work during the spring and summer months. Depending on the numbers that turn out to each work party will depend on the level of distruption during your fishing time. The more people that turn out the less amount of work parties needed to complete the work so disruption is kept to a minimum. We thank you in advance for all your help and supports. Keep and eye on our Facebook page for all up and coming events and planned work parties.

  • Club rules being broken

We've had reports of members breaking club rules, littering, camp fires, drug taking and not adhering to number of quests and age limits. We have regular patrols on all our club waters and also CCTV.
